Make Mine Minis - The Rewards Of Raising Miniature Cattle

Miniature cattle are as much at home on the hobby farm as they are home on the range. When choosing the right cattle for our small-scale ranch, size matters. The smaller cattle breeds ideally suites our land. Not only are they adorable they may also be the answer to eco-friendly sustainable beef.

  • Minis are much easier to manage than the standard size breeds, in that they are less intimidating and easier to handle. Small cattle are easier on your land, equipment, and facilities.
  • You can raise more cattle per acre. With the smaller cattle, the ratio is two per acre.
  • They are 25% more efficient in terms of feed conversion than their larger counterparts and therefore eat much less. About 1/3 the feed is typical.
  • As far as greenhouse gasses go, 10 mini cows produce the same amount of methane gas as one full size cow.
  • Because you can raise more animals in the same amount of space, beef production is much greater.
  • Compared to standard size cattle, miniatures have a larger percentage of body mass converted to beef due to lower fat content and bone mass.
  • What do they taste like? Delicious. These petite cattle have shorter cells in the muscles. The shorter the cell the more tender the beef.
